Amber Rose

I know very little about Amber Rose, other than she's a model and served as a beard for dated Kanye West, but I am always blown away by her personal style which is a femmedrogynous mix of hip hop, punk and 40's pin up. Also, people of Cape Verdean ancestry seem to be invariably and uniquely gorgeous.

It's possible that I enjoy her androfemme style because it has a lot in common with my own: cropped blonde hair (I just love this look on girls, period), big tits, red lips.

Theres also something a little bit evocative of my beloved Grace Jones:

Though I ain't gonna lie, no one can ever do that photo better than Grace can.

Winter Solstice

Each year between December 20 and 23, comes the longest night followed by the return of the Sun as it passes from Sagittarius into Capricorn, marking the official beginning of winter. In a sense the Sun is being reborn as it rises from the depths of darkness and the days begin to lengthen once again. In ancient days, it was a time of great rejoicing. Today, we are not as dependent on the sun with our electrical light sources, but many religions and cultures celebrate the light in some way during this holiday season. For more info on the Winter Solstice – http://www.religioustolerance.org/winter_solstice.htm.

For me, as one who is so connected to our natural world, this is one of my favorite holidays. In fact, I will be hosting a gathering at a new venue in Danvers, MA called Human Nature.http://www.healingholistically.com/#/calander-events/4544563465. I hope you can join me for a special time of reflection and celebration if you are in the Boston/Northshore area.

Besides being a minister, I am also an astrologer which has helped me to get in-tuned to our natural earth cycles. As we come close to the end of the year, Mercury is in retrograde — now is the time to repair, review and realign priorities and goals — especially on a soul level, since the new Winter season is about honoring our growing light within. Let go of the old this week, and slow down and take time to re-evaluate your priorities and decide what is worthy of your time and resources. If you don’t take the time now, my guess there will be events that will bring about some changes in your emotional perspective over the next couple of months — for next Monday evening, there will also be a lunar eclipse before the solstice. In a lunar eclipse, the earth blocks the sun rays to the moon temporarily. Metaphorically, we shift our psyche/perspective to get a glimpse of our shadow side that maybe ready to be integrated. If you can’t join us for our winter solstice sacred gathering, make your own ceremony. Winter Solstice events very often include fire ceremonies to help release the old and this year with the lunar eclipse, it will be such a helpful ritual especially if you are feeling overwhelmed with emotions or stress. Here is link that has explains how to create your own fire ceremony — http://life-winds.com/client-resources/ceremony-ritual/fire-ceremony. Afterwards, light a candle and say a prayer for what you want to grow in your life or how you want to shine in the world in the next year. For this part, I leave you with a prayer:

Winter Prayer/Meditation

by Susan Kramer

During lengthening days of light
May our actions be lighthearted
Upon right and noble impulses

During quiet hours beyond dusk, before dawn
May we take time to think over events from the day
Plan for good in the morrow.

In light of day
May we extend our personal borders
Caring and sharing expansively.

So the world glows bright from our presence
May we blaze as beacons of harmony
Lighting the path ahead.

To nurture efforts toward lasting peace
May we with act with kindness to all
Embracing our family and friends wholeheartedly
Ever gracing our world-wide family lightheartedly.

Wishing you a heartlight filled holiday season,
Rev. Annika

Ebert is known for his film review column (appearing in the Chicago Sun-Times since 1967, and later online) and for the television programs Sneak Previews, At the Movies with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, and Siskel and Ebert and The Movies, all of which he co-hosted for a combined 23 years with Gene Siskel. After Siskel's death in 1999, Ebert teamed with Richard Roeper for the television series Ebert & Roeper & the Movies, which began airing in 2000. Although his name remained in the title, Ebert did not appear on the show after mid-2006, when he suffered post-surgical complications related to thyroid cancer which left him unable to speak. Ebert ended his association with the show in July 2008, but in February 2009 he stated that he and Roeper would continue their work on a new show. Ebert's current show, Ebert Presents at the Movies, premiered on January 21, 2011, with Ebert appearing in a brief segment called "Roger's Office".

Ebert's movie reviews are syndicated to more than 200 newspapers in the United States and worldwide by Universal Press Syndicate. He has written more than 15 books, including his annual movie yearbook which is predominantly a collection of his reviews of that year. In 1975, Ebert became the first film critic to win a Pulitzer Prize. His television programs have been widely syndicated and have been nominated for Emmy awards. In February 1995, a section of Chicago's Erie Street near the CBS Studios was renamed Siskel & Ebert Way. In June 2005, Ebert was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was the first professional film critic to receive such an award. He has honorary degrees from the University of Colorado, the AFI Conservatory, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Forbes has described him as "the most powerful pundit in America".

Since 1996, he has written a Great Movies series of individual reviews of what he deems to be the most important films of all time. This list and his associated reviews have now expanded to include over 300 movies. Since 1999, he has hosted the annual Roger Ebert's Film Festival in Champaign, Illinois.

Roger Joseph Ebert Early life and education

Roger Joseph Ebert was born in Urbana, Illinois, the son of Walter H. Ebert, an electrician, and Annabel Ebert. His paternal grandparents were German immigrants and his maternal ancestry is Dutch and Irish. Ebert's interest in journalism began as a student at Urbana High School, where he was a sports writer for The News-Gazette in Champaign, Illinois; however, he began his writing career with letters of comment to the science fiction fanzines of the era. He became involved in science fiction fandom, writing articles for fanzines, including Richard A. Lupoff's Xero. In his senior year he was co-editor of his high school newspaper, The Echo. In 1958, Ebert won the Illinois High School Association state speech championship in Radio Speaking, an event that simulates radio newscasts.

Regarding his early influences in film critiquing, Ebert wrote in the 1998 parody collection Mad About the Movies:

"I learned to be a movie critic by reading Mad magazine... Mad's parodies made me aware of the machine inside the skin—of the way a movie might look original on the outside, while inside it was just recycling the same old dumb formulas. I did not read the magazine, I plundered it for clues to the universe. Pauline Kael lost it at the movies; I lost it at Mad magazine."

After briefly attending the University of Chicago, Ebert received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was editor of The Daily Illini and member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. One of the first movie reviews he ever wrote was a review of La dolce vita, published in The Daily Illini in October 1961. After Ebert wrote an article on the death of writer Brendan Behan for Chicago Daily News editor Herman Kogan, Ebert was given a job as a reporter and feature writer at the Sun-Times in 1966. After movie critic Eleanor Keane left the paper, editor Robert Zonk gave the job to Ebert

JOHN WAYNE : James Arness, right, and Dennis Weaver in television series Gunsmoke

FORMER 'Gunsmoke' star James Arness, who won the TV role that John Wayne declined, has died at age 88, CBS spokesman Chris Ender said.

Mr Ender had no further details, but Arness's official website said the actor died yesterday of natural causes.

Arness played US Marshal Matt Dillon in the Western, which ran on CBS from 1955 to 1975 and was the longest-running dramatic series in network history until tied by NBC's Law & Order.

The Minnesota native was 32 when friend John Wayne declined the lead role in Gunsmoke and recommended Arness instead.

Mr Arness said he left home at age 18, hopping freight trains and ships. He was wounded in World War II, then went to Hollywood and had parts in more than 20 films before going to Gunsmoke.

He was the brother of Peter Graves, the star of the TV series Mission Impossible. Graves died last year.

I LOVE YOU MAN

I LOVE YOU MANI LOVE YOU MAN

The other day I almost went up and gave one of the male nurses a big fat kiss – or at least a “man hug”.

Why? The other docs were all blown away as well.

First, an apology. A resurgence of some first trimester-like queasiness has left me quite behind in replying to your extremely warm and loving outpouring of support from Friday’s announcement. It was so awesome to see all your messages trickle in. Me and Baby B are feeling the love.

Next, a thank you. I’ve been wanting to write to say thank you for awhile, and I feel like I should warn you that there may be a few cheesy moments ahead. I have almost given up this blog so many times. But I just can’t because I love you guys so much. I hope you recognize yourself in something I say below.

Thank you for your comments, emails, tweets, texts, and more to congratulate Andrew and me on the happy baby news. I hope you will stay with me for this new, crazy chapter in our lives.

Thank you for all your comments and words of support and encouragement on the infertility struggles (that are really only temporarily gone — baby #2 will likely be another challenge). Some of you are going through the same thing, some of you are cheerleaders, some of you are listeners. I appreciate you all.

Thank you for those of you who shared with me your own struggles. A lot of you suffered losses or hard times too, and no matter what I’ve gone through, I’ve never been the only one (and neither have you).

Thank you to the people in my real life who read my blog and then see me in person and politely don’t bring up the awkward and embarrassing parts.

Thank you to my blog friends who have become “in real life” friends and reach out to make plans (even when I become all hermit-y for months at a time).

Thank you to readers who care so much about the things I dream for, praying and hoping for them to come true. It’s kind of amazing.

Thank you to my twitter friends, who indulge my 140 character whims and keep me sane and laughing every day.

Thank you to my flickr friends who always tell me I look pretty and my house looks cute. It’s one of the best self-esteem boosters I’ve got.

Thank you to people who keep reading and commenting, even though I kind of suck at reciprocating.

Thank you for being so open and honest about your own lives in your writing, which gives me courage to do the same.

Thank you to the bloggers who are always creating beautiful things (crafts, food, photography, art) that keep me so inspired.

Thank you all for reading and being a part of my journey.
